Our instructors are skilled at creating various levels of challenges to complement your current skill set. I have been riding motorcycles almost 40 years yet I learn each time I take even entry level classes. Most riding problems boil down to a basic skills. Women learn and develop confidence differently than men. Our teaching methods are tailored for women. We teach women to use their stronger lower bodies, rather than trying to muscle the bike with arms and shoulders. And men appreciate our safe, step by step methods too. If you’re a skilled guy who wants to ride with a less experienced spouse or girlfriend, you will learn how different riding is for women. I love working with spouses or partners. Teaching you to ride as a team and understand each other’s strengths is really fun! And isn’t that who you want to ride with anyway?
I enjoy teaching private lessons to riders who have never, ever ridden a motorcycle before. Currently we do not have the facilities, gear, or motorcycles to offer a group class to brand new riders. We would like to offer this in the future!
Alcohol will not be served at the ADVWoman Rally. Our primary concern is for the safety, welfare, and enjoyment of our guests. Alcohol and motorcycles do not mix. This will also deter unwanted advances and from “liquored up” admirers. Camping is located on County owned Flying Heels Rodeo Arena. Alcohol is not allowed on county property without a special liquor license. There is a grill and bar at the Inn at Silvercreek where alcoholic beverages can be enjoyed. Guests lodging at the hotel are free to enjoy beverages in their rooms as well. I reiterate, alcohol and motorcycle riding do not mix. Your cooperation and responsible consumption is greatly appreciated!
Yes, non-riding friends are welcome to attend the rally. They must pay the rally registration fee and sign a liability release waiver. This rally fee pays for insurance, convention and arena rental, and meals. Everyone must pay this fee. Registered Rally attendees are welcome to bring a guest to Saturday night’s DJ dance free of charge. Please make sure guests behave respectfully and congenially with our largely female guests.
Adventure motorcycles are typically 650cc and larger. Adventure motorcycles typically weigh more than 350LBS, have a fuel range greater than 200 miles, include wind screens and fairings, can power multiple electronic devices, and are capable of carrying luggage. However, there are smaller entry level motorcycles like the Yamaha XT250 or Honda CR250L which smaller statured riders may use as Adventure Motorcycles. If you ride a smaller street legal motorcycle primarily on dirt and gravel roads rather than on single track in the woods, you might consider taking “Adventure Essentials” class. Riders on big, heavy adventure bikes will NOT turn by pivoting around their inside foot. Adventure riders will predominately turn counter weighting the motorcycle. Riders on smaller, lighter motorcycles can turn around their inside foot AND by counter weighting.
This curriculum teaches advanced skills required to ride the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route. Training will begin with a review of proper braking and riding position, then we will ride to the local motocross track to practice steep uphills, downhills, and hairpin turns. From the MX track we will ride to a local BLM area to practice several water crossings and ruts. We will pack lunch and cover a lot of ground! All riders must posess a motorcycle endoresement and ride street legal motorcycle licensed motorcycles.
- Steep Ascents and Descents
- Tight Hairpin Turns
- Ruts & Rocks
- Water Crossing
- Riding in a Group
We teach essential skills for riding smaller dirt bikes on single track. Essentials skills like clutch control, throttle control, balance, braking, acceleration, shifting, cornering, hills, and obstacles. Riders will have fun learning to “speed shift,” shift without using the clutch, accelerate quickly, and brake with control. You’ll learn about initiating a turn, holding your line, and how to accelerate out of the turn. Single track riding requires dynamic movement on the motorcycle and quick reflexes. All these skills transfer directly to riding big adventure bikes. Gaining confidence and skill on smaller more nimble motorcycles helps riders when they move to bigger, heavier adventure bikes.
Adventure Essentials teaches essential skills for riding big, heavy, adventure motorcycles on dirt and gravel roads. Essentials skills like clutch control, throttle control, balance, braking, slow turns, hill stops, and how to approach obstacles. All our instructors are highly skilled women. We break each individual skill into small teachable pieces. You will learn one small bit at a time and quickly develop self-confidence and skill. And since our instructors are women, we know how heavy and intimidating these big bikes can feel. We’ll share the tips and tricks we used to move beyond fear to become capable, self-reliant riders.
On range rider training for Adventure Essentials, Dirt Bike Essentials, and Back Country Discovery Essentials requires an additional fee. Lunch, snacks, fuel, are not included.
Entrance to the rally, meals, all CLASS ROOM TRAINING, Thursday evening opening ceremony, Saturday evening closing celebration, and Saturday evening DJ dance. Catered breakfast is included and will be served in the conference center of the Inn at Silver Creek Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Catered dinner is included and will be served in the conference center of the Inn at Silvercreek Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Self-contained RV and tent camping is included in rally registration. Camping is primitive with no hookups. There will be a porta-potty in the camping area. Camping is located on the South East corner of Flying Heels Arena next to the Inn at Silvercreek parking lot. Campers will access the camping area from the Inn at Silvercreek parking lot. Showers, including towels, are available in the recreation center at the Inn. Recreation center passes are $5 per day with unlimited access to showers, weight training room, racquetball courts, indoor/outdoor pool and hot tubs. Breakfast and dinner will be served in the convention center of the Inn at Silvercreek. This is easy walking distance from campground. Camp fires are NOT allowed. Depending on fire restrictions, we may have one community fire pit in the camping area.
Yes, men are welcome to join the fun. Our rally is “by women, for women and their families and friends.” We had a mixture of 60% women and 40% men at the 2016 rally. Some of our best reviews came from the fellas. Many of the gentlemen attended our excellent rider training. One guy was even brave enough to dance with us at the DJ Dance!
Safety, on and off the motocycle, is our highest priority. We welcome men who are respectful. Creeps looking to “hit on chicks” are not welcome. Local law enforcement is involved in the planning of our rally and will patrol the area. We want everyone to be comfortable and safe.
The ADVWoman Rally is all about teaching, supporting, and training. If you can ride a motorcyle- release the clutch to take off, shift gears, and come to a stop; you’re good enough for our training. We’re not setup to teach brand new riders yet. (We hope to add a “Never Ever” class in the future.) But, you don’t have to have lots of experience. Our instructors are trained to work with riders of all skill levels. We are patient, supportive, and nurturing. At the 2016 rally, one of our attendees had only ridden her motorcycle FOUR TIMES before taking our classes. She had a blast and did great! Her husband wasn’t too bad either! They both improved dramatically!
ADVWoman does not provide motorcycles. Woman owned Western Dual Sport Motorcycle Adventures (WDSMA) is our preferred partner for renting dual sport motorcycles. WDSMA is conveniently located in Lafayette, Colorado just 30 minutes from Denver International Airport (DIA.) They offer Airport pickup and Bike Delivery as well. They rent a variety of motorcycles: Vstroms, Super Tenere, and DR650. The Suzuki DR650 is a great dual sport motorcyle for new and experienced riders alike. It can even be lowered for smaller statured riders. WDSMA is offering discounts for the ADVWoman Rally and deliver to the Rally in Granby. Browse their website at http://wdsma.com/ for information, call 303.725.3442, or email Ron@wdsma.com with any questions.
